Navreh – When: 28th March, 2021– Celebrated in – Kashmir
Navreh, the lunar New Year in Kashmir or Kashmiri Hindu New Year, is celebrated on the first day of Chaitra Navratri which heralds the onset of spring season. Navreh coincides with the first day of the Chaitra Shukla Paksh. In 2021, Navreh date is March 28.
Navreh 2021–2021 is the first day of 5093 of the Sapath Rishi Samvat calendar or the Kashmiri Hindu calendar. This is mentioned in Rajtarangini and the Nilamat Purana and considered as sacred in Kashmir as Maha Shivratri.
Navreh is observed as Ugadi , Telugu and Kannada New Year's day, in Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka. This festival is celebrated as Gudi Padwa in Maharashtra and Goa.
Ugadi – When: 29th March, 2021 – Celebrated in – Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Telengana
Yugaadi also called Ugadi is basically a Hindu festival signifying the time element of the Universe celebrated as a New Year Day coinciding with Chaitra Masam (the first lunar month), Shukla paksha (bright fortnight), Prathama Thithi (first lunar day) as per Chandrasana or Lunar Calendar.
It is a festival mainly celebrated in Southern part of India and Maharashtra. In Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka it is celebrated as Ugadi while in Maharashtra it is called as Gudi Padwa. In all the three states it is celebrated as per Chandrasana.
Gudi Padwa – When: 29th March, 2021 – Celebrated in – Maharashtra and Goa
The occasion of Gudi Padwa is generally observed according to the Hindu Calendar in the month of March or April every year. Why is Gudi Padwa Celebrated?

Many followers also observe this day to celebrate the defeat of Sakas by Shalivahan. Few celebrate this day for the victory of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. How is Gudi Padwa celebrated?
Gudi Padwa is a holy occasion, and thus, offering of a customary meal comprising neem leaves, and jaggery (sometimes tamarind) is offered. The auspicious occasion is observed with some religious customs associated with Gudi Padwa, which are still followed by the believers. However, this occasion also calls for feast and get-togethers where family members come together and share some happy moments. Cheti Chand – When: 29th March, 2021 – Celebrated in – Sindhi community [Hindu Calendar]
Cheti Chand is celebrated as New Year's Day by Sindhis, according to the Hindu Calendar, Cheti Chand is celebrated on the second day of the Chaitra month known as Chet in Sindhi. So it is known as CHET-I-CHAND.IT is the second day of month chaitra. i.e a day after gudi padwa and ugadi.
The Sindhi community celebrates the festival of Cheti Chand in honour of the birth of Ishta Deva Uderolal, popularly known as Jhulelal, the Patron Saint of the Sindhis. This day is considered to be very auspicious and is celebrated with pompous and gaiety. On this day, people worship water the elixir of life.
Followers of Jhulelal observe Chaliha Sahib. It suggests that for forty long days and nights they underwent rituals and vigil on the bank of Sindhu. They did not shave, nor did they wear new clothes or shoes. They did not use soap or oil or any opulent thing. They just washed their clothes, dried them and wore them again. In the evening, they worshipped God Varun, sang songs in his praise and prayed for their solace and salvation. After 40 days of Chaalis, the followers of Jhulelal celebrate the occasion with festivity as 'Thanks Giving Day' even till today.
On this day many Sindhis take Baharana Sahib to nearby River or Lake. Baharana Sahib Consists of Jyot, Misiri, Phota, Fal, Akha. Behind is Kallosh and a Nariyal in it, covered with Cloth and phool, patta. There is also Murti of Pujya Jhulelal Devta.
There is a spirit associated with this festival which raises the hope and expectations along with the New Year. This one is a homely affair and is rich in all traditions and customs.
Baisakhi – When: 14th April, 2021 – Celebrated in – Punjab
According to Hindu Calendar, Baisakhi is a festival celebrated across the northern Indian subcontinent, especially in the Punjab region by the Sikh community. More recently, this festival is also celebrated around the world by Sikh diaspora. For the Sikh community this festival commemorates the establishment of the Khalsa. It is also celebrated by Hindus and Buddhists for different reasons including the start of a new year. People in the Punjab Region regard Vaisakhi as a harvest festival.For Hindus, it is the start of the second month of New Year after Chaitr, and is celebrated with requisite bathing, partying, and worshipping. It's believed that thousands of years ago, Goddess Ganga descended to earth and in her honour, many Hindus gather along the sacred Ganges River for ritual baths. The action is centered in the holy cities along the Ganges in north India, or in Srinagar's Mughal Gardens, Jammu's Nagbani Temples–, or anywhere in Tamil Nadu. Hindus plant poles (wrapped in flags of gold-embroidered silk) in front of their homes, and hang pots of brass, copper or silver on top.
Pohela Boishakh – When: 14th April, 2021 – Celebrated in – West Bengal and Bangladesh
Poila Baisakh 2021 or Bengali New Year is one of the important festival of Bengali Community in Hindu Calendar. The New Year celebrate in Bangladesh, Indian States West Bengal and Tripura, is celebrates in the month of Vaishakh or Baisakh (mid of April). Poila Baisakh 2021 date is 14th April 2021. The Bengali New Year is popularly referred as Naba Barsa in Bengal and Pohela or Poila Boishakh in Bangladesh and is the first day in the Bengali Calendar. Bengali Year 1423 begins on the day.
Bengali New Year 1423 ( Poila Baisakh 2021 ), the fair will be ornamented with a number of colorful stalls offering Bangladeshi handicrafts, cloths, souvenirs and snacks, said a press release. The hotel will also offer various food stalls including chatpati, fuchka, sugar cane juice, mango bhorta and mixed fruit cocktail on the occasion.
On Poila Boisakh, Goddess Lakshmi, the Hindu goddess of wealth, and Lord Ganesh are worshiped. Most of Jewellery merchants perform the Halkhata ceremony that marks the advent of the Bengali New Year. All shops are decorated with flowers and one will notice stringed fresh lemons and chillies hanging in front of shops. This is used to ward off the evil eye
Bihu – When: 14th April, 2021 – Celebrated in – Assam
Besides the Assamese, various tribes in the state, too, celebrate Bihu. The Bodos observe it as Baishagu, Karbis as Johang Pula, Deoris as Bahagia Bihu, Rabhas as Nava Barasa, Tiwas as Bisu and Tai Phakes as Pasni Bihu.
Why Bihu is Special According to Hindu Calendar?
- Bihu is the most important non-religious festival of the Assam.
- There are three Bihu's.
- In April it is Bohag Bihu , in October/November it is Kati Bihu and in January it is Magh Bihu.
- The Bihu festival celebrates the three seasons of spring, important to the largely pastoral people of Assam.
Some More Bihu Festival Details:
- The first day of the bihu is called goru bihu or cow bihu, in which cows are washed and worshipped
- This second day is called Manuh (human) bihu on April 15, the New Year Day.
- The third day is Gosai (Gods) bihu; statues of Gods, worshiped in all households are cleaned and worshiped asking for a smooth new year.
Puthandu – When: 14th April, 2021 – Celebrated in – Tamil Nadu
Tamil New Year also called as " Varusha Pirappu or Puthandu " among Tamil people all over the world. It is celebrated according to the Tamil calendar on the first day of Chithirai month. According to the Gregorian calendar it falls on 13th or 14 th April. Tamil People All over the world celebrate Varusha Pirappu in a big way by merrymaking and feasting.
Today we got up early, my daughter and me together drew a beautiful Rangoli, decorated it by coloring, and lit a kuthuvilakku, kept in the middle of the Rangoli.
As a food blogger, already I have posted few recipes for New Year. But I have prepared a authentic and traditional food for our lunch. There are three main fruits for tamilians because these are the seasonal fruits during the Tamil New year time and called as "Mukkani (Three fruits)" – Maa (Mango), Pala (Jackfruit) and Vaalai (Banana) . So based on these three fruits I have decided my menu, but I could not get this Jack Fruit and so dropped the recipe with Jackfruit.
Vishu – When: 14th April, 2021 – Celebrated in – Kerala
So Vishu is coming up on14th April, 2021, it's an occasion to celebrate with your families. Vishu is a really auspicious day for the people in Kerala, even though Malayalam calendar suggests that the real New Year comes in the month of August, Malayalam people count Vishu as beginning of all new things. That is why producers release their movies, begin new work on this day. It is a big day for people in Kerala. They celebrate the day with flowers, decorated elephants, new clothes, all around happy occasion.
Malayalam movie stars also celebrate the day, like this year actor Mammootty will release his much anticipated movie of the year Bhaskar The Rascal on the occasion of Vishu.
